Kevin BroderickKevin is Personal/Professional History(For the quick version, check out Kevin's resume.) No later than middle school, Kevin was providing unofficial support to teachers and fellow students (and spending a bit too much time inside rather than outdoors); his first "professional" engagement was providing general assistance to a local computer consultant deluged by free goodies due to a column in a national computing magazine (and a few books on the Windows API). By the time he reached high school, he had firmly entrenched himself as a helpful computer nerd and quickly took advantage of the then-rare direct Internet connection provided by his prep school to download an early version of Slackware Linux. Shortly before begining his junior year, he was instrumental in converting the school's client machines from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95; following that year, he accepted a position with the summer program, co-teaching "Internet Publishing" and maintaining the school's network. He took the same position again each of the following three summers, honing his educational and support skills. During the academic year, he pursued a degree in Computer Science and worked in a pair of work-study positions, moving from web developer for the Human Resources Department to a writing coach in the school's Writing Center. Around the same time, he added a second major (in English Literature) to his curriculum. Following his junior year of college, Kevin accepted a position as a Software Engineering Intern at the local branch of Xtria Healthcare, a large information technology firm. While at Xtria, he worked on design, documentation, coding, and testing for a web-based training system. He continued at Xtria until the following spring, when his position was one of several cut during a corporate reorganization. After spending several months coming to grips with the reality of a lousy job market and a brief stint as a bookstore cashier, he took a part-time computer support job at Bolton Valley Resort. A month later, he was the full-time computer guy; several months later, he was the IT Manager. Under that guise, he supports the computer, phone, and in-house cable TV systems, with a focus on the varied computer-based point-of-sale systems and the need for those systems to work reliably and effeciently for the best guest experience possible. In doing so, he has also learned a smattering of accounting concepts and the importance of accurate sales tracking in business processes. |
